A Time to Pray with and for One Another

It is Day Nine for this very novel time at the house of prayer, in response to novel corona.  The novelty of this complete change of our way of life has mostly worn off!  And therefore, time to go deeper.

Thanks to the good suggestion of my sister-in-law Alice, we are inviting you to join us spiritually during our daily times of prayer.  Because of the need for physical isolation, we cannot be with any others in our chapel;  but perhaps we could pray together during some of the same times.

Chantelle and I meet each day from 10:00 – 11:00 am, Monday to Friday, and 5:00 pm Saturday for Eucharist.  You might wish to take time for prayer during part and some of those times.  Suggestions might be to read the scriptures from the lectionary.  Part of our prayer is the practice of Silent Sacred Sitting (for 20 minutes).   Sit Still.  Sit Straight. Be Mindful. Receive Non-Judgmental Compassion.  Possibly Use a Word or Phrase – In Faith and Love to God at the Centre of Our Being.  Most of all, whatever the practice, it is a time for spiritual communion.

The focus of these hour-long times of prayer is two-fold: first, for those affected by COVID-19, the sick and the dying with their loved ones, including those caring for the sick; and secondly, on behalf of the many who no longer can gather with others, especially for the Eucharist.

We hope to offer suggestions and reflections from time to time.

Glenn along with Chantelle

  1. Lovely. A great reminder that we are not alone, and that we are never alone. A friend here on Vancouver Island emailed a reminder that, in all of this, our most important work is prayer.

At the end of this day, a treasured conversation is recalled. The morning of 9-11, I was set to travel to QHP, gratefully anticipating a few days in one of the hermitages. While I was still at home, one of my sisters phoned, expressing her deep hope that I was still going to QHP. She offered: "We need you there now, more than ever!" She was so very right.

Thank you, Glenn and Chantelle, for continuing to create an intentional praying community.

This weekend many Christians celebrate Palm Sunday ,,,a liturgy that usually includes a procession with palms, remembering Jesus's triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
We hear that story....but before we leave the service we will also have heard Matthew's account of the crucifixion. It is a holy time of ambiguities, not unlike our current times..
Because we are house bound this year, our 'home liturgy' will be void of palms, apart from the dried ones from last year.
The Spirit works, nonetheless, and somehow I was directed to the attached article that seems important enough to share. I will start reading labels more carefully,
and I will feel quite alright using cedar boughs in lieu of palms, for our prayer time this evening.".Sing Hosanna to the Son of David"...."Jesus, remember me, when You come into Your kin-dom."

Palm oil – deforestation for everyday products
Palm oil is literally everywhere – in our foods, cosmetics, cleaning products and fuels. It’s a source of huge profits for multinational corporations, while at the same time destroying the livelihoods of smallholders...
