Pentecost – 2020 – Life at the House of Prayer
In his bi-weekly pre-Pentecost reflections, Ron Rolheiser, OMI today reminds us that God’s breath was understood by the ancients to be as moral as it is physical, as harmonious as it is creative, and as wise as it is fertile. For them, the breath of God was one force and it did not contradict itself. The physical and the spiritual worlds were not set against each other. One spirit was understood to be the source of both.
Here at QHP during these days between Ascension and Pentecost, the one spirit of both the physical and spiritual worlds was very much in evidence. It is now Day 70 since the house closed, and we are coming to the end of a very busy week. This has included drilling a new well for a very old one which gave out this winter – big thanks to Mirek, Bob, 2 Devons, Marj, Barrie, Dave and Jeremy for fresh clean water. Long-time friend Ken spent most of a day here, moving chips onto pathways, and other landscaping, assisted by both Fran and Chantelle. Erron and Mary came by to see if they could help with cutting our many, lengthy trails. A few persons have come by for “on-the-deck” personal appointments. There is life everywhere. There is Spirit throughout.
Although the two of us continue to meet daily for Eucharist and silent prayer, we are exploring ways to include a few more others, in harmony with the local diocese. Perhaps within a few weeks we might be able even to welcome a reduced number of overnight guests.
"God, we hear, speak and read so many words. Yet, yours is the word we need most of all. We thank you for the many tangible ways your Son through the Spirit speaks to us. We thank you too, for encounters with your word in silence—the silence which quietens us, touches our woundedness, heals us, expands our sense of wonder. May we all know the spirit of God within us and throughout the world so that Pentecost may be an experience of stillness within the busyness, of hope within the pain, of peace beyond our anxieties. May Pentecost be a spirited time for us all! Praise to you, Creator, to your eternal Word and to your abiding Spirit.”

At this graced time of Pentecost, I would like to share a couple of prayers from "Fragments of Your Ancient Name" by Joyce Rupp.

SPIRIT OF INTER-BEING
There is no separation from you,
No disconnection or apartness.
There is no place where you are not,
No inter-sanctum without your life.

You move as an intricate part of our being.
Every sacrament of life invites a reminder
Of how deeply wedded we are to you,
Each situation contains an opportunity
To engage with this profound oneness.
