Morning Thoughts ~~ continuing series of reflections from Tim, QHP Core Community ~
It’s hard to get a grip. Like running on a dew-sparkled lawn. It’s great fun, only you can’t stop quickly enough or turn fast enough. So that joyous childlike moment becomes painful or problematic.
Jesus says, no worries. I’m sending you cleats, literally the Paraklētos. Sure, the bible dictionary will tell you the Paraclete is a well trained official aide to help guide you in difficult matters. Yet, I like to think about the Holy Spirit as divine ability for “getting a grip.” Traction. Whether it’s spiritual devotion (gifts for serving others or making spiritual progress), or navigating the slippery steep places - and especially when you find yourself out of step with the religious community (see John 15:26ff), we need a firm grip to get through without inflicting harm or suffering ignorantly.
I’m grateful Jesus endows us with a firm place for every step along the way and each challenge, threat, or great opportunity before us.
What a tremendous gift of love Jesus sent us! Sophia Wisdom. A Spirit to guide. If only I could listen more attentively and more constantly to her ever-present voice. Thankfully, when I am not paying attention to what she is saying or to where she is leading, she nudges me over and over again until I finally heed her voice. What a blessing and a relief to know that there is always Someone whom I can trust on my journey, Someone who will never give up on me.
